What Is the Damon System?
The Damon System straightens your teeth like traditional braces, but the brackets are self-ligating. This means the brackets themselves have a clasp that keeps the wire in place instead of using rubber bands. As your teeth move the wire moves, so they require fewer appointments to tighten and readjust.
What Are the Advantages of the Damon System?
The Damon System may look like traditional braces, but there are a few notable differences. This treatment:
- Is more discreet. Because this treatment doesn’t use colored ties like traditional braces, the brackets are less noticeable. They’re smaller, and sometimes come in clear options too.
- Requires fewer appointments. The self-ligating bracket makes it possible to have fewer appointments. You only have to visit us every eight to 10 weeks instead of four to six.
- Is easier to clean. Because they don’t have elastic ties, food is less likely to get stuck in the clasps. This keeps your teeth cleaner and can decrease the risk of cavities and stains.
Whether or not you choose traditional braces or the Damon System is completely up to you. If you prefer to get straighter teeth without the full appearance of braces, you can also consider Invisalign®, which is offered at all our locations.

Don’t Miss School or Work for Orthodontist Appointments
Just like with any orthodontic treatment, it’s still important to go to appointments throughout your treatment. At Genesis Dental we offer appointment times in the evening and on weekends, so you don’t have to miss work or school.
What Should I Expect With the Damon System?
The Damon System is similar to traditional braces. If you decide that it’s right for you after your free consultation, the treatment process is easy.
First, we’ll apply a strong adhesive to stick the brackets to your teeth. We’ll then thread a wire through the clasps to tighten the wire and keep it in place. We’ll then schedule appointments every eight to 10 weeks to monitor your progress and adjust the wire.
You may experience some discomfort the first few days after they’re placed, but that’s completely normal. We recommend eating soft foods and taking over-the-counter pain medication as you first get used to your new braces.
Like traditional braces you have to be careful about what foods you eat. Sticky and hard foods can accidentally pop a bracket off or bend the wire.
If you have any questions about what life with braces will mean for you, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We’ll be happy to discuss any concerns you may have about starting orthodontic treatment.
